CONCEPT: Deals with the tensions between nature, technology and the cosmos. A 12’ H suspended copper ring hovers over a large bronze inlayed ring containing a quote by John Muir, (see slide #17) The bronze ring’s inner opening will line up with the shadow of the copper ring once a year sucking anyone in close proximity into the ether. Three 16’ H pieces form a triangular footprint that attaches to the suspended ring. One “leg” is a cast bronze tree with ground cover; the second is a rather quirky ‘techno’ form that looks somewhat functional, and the third a black “Bullhyde” covered universe symbol with a kinetic top referencing both propellers (The college has a flight school and aircraft maintenance program) and a spiraling galaxy. The inlaid bronze ring contains the following quote by John Muir: “When anyone tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it connected to the whole universe.” The cast glass rivets (view 4) (referencing aircraft rivet fabrication and stars) light at night.
